Fumigasi kapal sangat perlu dilakukan karena pembasmian hama dengan metode lain hanyalah sia-sia belaka. Karena hama yang berada di kapal perlu diperlakukan khusus dan tidak boleh ada lubang sama sekali diseluruh bagian kapal karena ditakutkan pestisida yang dipakai akan keluar. Bahan pestisida yang Fumida gunakan adalah Metil Bromida (CH3Br).
